We always like to give you a varied selection of musical styles, and we're in MOR territory here. However, it appears Jon's a canny enough
songwriter to carry this kind of thing off without sounding too hackneyed.
Impressively, the only person involved with the whole production was Jon himself, and all the instrumental parts are extremely competently
played. We particularly enjoyed the understated piano line, which hints at a penchant for jazz. The vocals are also good, and a fair few cute
lyrical tricks have been played.
This is jangly, guitar-based pop that's refreshingly free of pretension
What the artist says
I've worked as a piano/vocal entertainer, mainly abroad, for 12 years, working about nine months a year. I was a pro drummer for eight years
before that. I'm grateful music technology has brought "the means of production" within the reach of ordinary musicians.
How was it put together
"The track was inspired by Fred Dinage on HOW?, and recorded on a Roland VS1680 digital recorder. The Proteus 2000 was used for the
bass, piano, strings and organ, and the Alesis D4 took care of the drums and percussion. Everything was monitored through an ancient
Realistic amp with matching teak effect two-way speakers.
Equipment used
Proteus/Proteus 2000, Roland VS1680, Røde NT1, Alesis D4, 3060 Compressor, guitars.
